Discovering what love is one day at a time
Have you ever worn a girdle, spandex, or compression garments? Maybe to have to have the "look" you desired the girdle helped? Girdles are not my friend, they do not help me like the skin I am in. They are a very unforgiving garment that you shove your body into... Now days girdles are made with more forgiving fabric, rather than the rubber, somewhat elastic somewhat swimming cap rubber, with a little bit of give... (Notice I said a little bit....)
To put it on you jump from a bed, dresser etc and shove with great force your body parts and other skin into this contraption which is SIZES too small for you. Well I know you can imagine what happens to the skin that does not fit...It purges itself out over the top gasping for freedom. Kind of like when you find that pair of jeans you have not seen in years...and then you find out why...Did you get that visual?
I guess a girdle’s purpose is to hold in... To maintain a strong, well put together front. (A package deal.)
The girdle is only good for what it holds....not everything fits.
There is excess sometimes. What do you do with that? Duct Tape?
I was in a wedding once and there was a bridesmaid dress that I was to wear. It was a beautiful cream colored, floor length, off the shoulder, pencil skirt, with a slit up the leg...it fit once...before the wedding, but not they day of. (I HAD EXCESS)....so...henceforth my experience with THE GIRDLE
Well, there was excess, so I couldn’t have that...so I thought about the duct tape option...instead I opted for a corset thinger...yet there was still excess. Truth be known, excess is excess unless it is removed. You can cover it up, but somehow it has a way of seeping out….somewhere… and it is uncomfortable.
I think the whole girdle thing started when people would bind up their long flowing garments closely around their bodies with leather belts, whenever they were starting a journey or engaging in any work...
The Bible in 1 Peter says:
Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ, as obedient children not conforming yourselves to the former lusts as in your ignorance but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct.
Gird up the loins of your mind. The loins are the generative power in people right? What is the generative power in your mind? It is your thoughts, procreative thoughts...your way of thinking and feeling, understanding and imagination. What is my daily package of thoughts? Do I have excess in any area? Where do my thought patterns go? Are they fearful? Are they true? Are they virtuous? Are they evil?
Would I be embarrassed to share my thought package with anyone? As a son or daughter of the King and with the incorruptible inheritance that we have received; is there anything in our thought package that should not be in our “girdle?” Is it a possibility that my thought patterns are harming me?
Be sober...first thing that comes to mind is...don’t drink, not my point...really though, take that a step further... obviously being drunk on any substance is not going to help me....what is excessive, not temperate in my life..., what is spilling over the top of my girdle?
If you think about what happens when you are intoxicated with alcohol...what is the excess that spills out...? Just look at the word intoxicated. Toxic. What in my life is killing me...what is toxic to me? Everyone is different. What does it look like for you?
Is it eating habits? Drinking habits? Shopping? Thought patterns? Lifestyle? Being sober is to be circumspect, collected in spirit. What has a life of its own in your life?
Excess is excess until it is removed...What do you need to eliminate?
What are you planning to replace it with? It has to be something that is not toxic to you. It has to be something worthwhile. Something worth girding up. Thoughts of life and hope and healing. Words of Life. Words of Truth.
I have been married to my wonderful husband for 22 years. We have two young men ages 18 and 13.. This blog is somewhat of a journal and attempt for me to keep a purposeful perspective on life as a whole.
